The HP StorageWorks D2D Backup System is an iSCSI disk-based storage appliance that emulates up to four tape devices, which can be used to back up a maximum of four host network servers or PCs. Each tape device is configured as an 1/8 Ultrium Tape autoloader (or stand-alone Ultrium tape drive). Autoloaders may be configured with between 8 and 24 slots

The appliance is simply connected to the network, where it can be accessed by multiple systems or linked directly via a network cable to a designated backup server.
