Theo kết quả kiểm tra và đánh giá của tác giả LOGAN G. HARBAUGH trên báo infoworld, thực hiện trên 8 hệ thống của các hãng Compellent, Dell/EMC, Dynamic Network Factory, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, iQstor, MPC, and Nexsan thì hiệu xuất của hệ thống phụ thuộc rất nhiều bởi các yếu tố như bộ xử lý của thiết bị lưu trữ (storage processor), giao diện kết nối mạng (network interface), bộ nhớ đệm (caching), HBA, và các thành phần khác chứ không phải chỉ phụ thuộc vào đĩa cứng hoặc loại đĩa cứng như nhiều người lầm tưởng.
Cũng có ý kiến cho rằng các loại đĩa cứng FC và SCSI có độ tin cậy cao hơn vì có hệ số MTBF (mean time between failures) là một triệu giờ hoặc hơn khi so sánh với các loại đĩa cứng SATA có hệ số MTBF vào khoảng 400,000 giờ. Tuy nhiên, giả sử thời gian xử dụng của các loại đĩa cứng là 5 năm (~43,800 giờ), các đĩa cứng SATA là một lựa chọn đáng cân nhắc khi biết rằng một ổ SATA có mức giá bằng 1/4 một đĩa cứng FC hay SCSI nhưng lại có dung lượng hơn gấp 3 lần
